Administrative Office of the Courts

Supporting Idaho’s Courts. Serving the Public.

The Administrative Office of the Courts provides statewide services that help ensure the daily operation of Idaho’s courts. Our roles include court administration, financial management, technology, education, and public outreach. Through collaboration, planning, and innovation, we help strengthen access to justice, promote public trust, and support the timely and impartial resolution of cases.

What is “Court Administration”?

Judges, clerks, and other court personnel work each day to conduct court hearings and render decisions. Court administration ensures that when they show up, the lights are on and the computers are working. Administrative staff support the ongoing operation of the courts in any way necessary – managing state funding, maintaining technology, and performing other vital operating functions. Processes and procedures maintained by the Administrative Office help courts operate in a consistent way throughout the state, providing certainty for court users who need to understand the system.

Divisions and Services

The Administrative Office of the Courts is organized into specialized divisions, each focused on a critical area of court operations. All divisions collaborate with administrative leadership in the seven judicial districts to address court needs throughout the state.

The head of the Administrative Office assists the Idaho Supreme Court in meeting its constitutional responsibility to administer a unified, integrated court system. Their office coordinates the work of the divisions, provides communications services for the Judicial Branch, and focuses on relations with other branches of state government.

This division manages court process, assistance for self-represented litigants, language access, and centralized services for treatment courts, family court services, juvenile cases, child protection, and guardianships/conservatorships. The Court Services Division also offers ongoing education for judges and court staff.

Technology is the focus here. The Information Division manages court software, hardware, and computer networks. It protects court systems from online threats, and it oversees digital services such as electronic document filing and the case information portals.

This division oversees statewide accounting, daily financial operations, and audits for the Judicial Branch. Its staff also manages facility needs for the Supreme Court building in Boise.

The Human Resources Division supports hiring, benefits, and related services for state employees within the Judicial Branch.

This division provides legal analysis to court leadership, prepares court rules and orders, offers legal support to the Supreme Court’s rulemaking committees, and represents the Judicial Branch at the Legislature.
